Gotta do the work…sing sing sing sing, until a sweet sound comes out, a voice you recognize as yours, yours only, moving you to the core. Then self-love will promptly follow, fear will melt away, you will feel it in your bones. Until then you gotta sing sing sing sing, never tire, until that sweet voice comes out, until that song is found. But once it is, you gotta continue to sing sing sing sing, to find more songs of course. Songs you learned outside are…well…songs you learned outside.

Arriving at a new page the visual journaler finds parts of her world she didn’t know existed, foreign, unpossessed places, places of fear and desire. Fear of losing what was once established, desire to find a renewed sense of self-value. Truths concealed, revealed, and then concealed again. The process offers her comfort and cheer. Uncertainty is certain though. She knows this will only last for a while, a short while.

When we believe we have finally achieved our own aesthetic, made our own beauty, we get stuck trying to achieve that same appearance again and again. Once we allow ourselves to move away from that that is limiting to explore ugly, we are able to get unstuck and move on to greater and truer aesthetic. Not easy. It helps to make plans to make something ugly sometime soon.

Just learned this word, I wish I didn’t.

It’s horrifying — but we can do something about it. I’ve just signed a petition to change the law in the Maldives to stop rape victims being publicly flogged for “sex outside marriage”. Politicians there make a lot of money from tourism, so a global outcry can get the president to face down extremists and act. Join me in this campaign, and send this link on to others:
