Spread #17 – Construction Runs In My Family August 26, 2008

….It beats destruction…

What runs in your family?

Yes! It DOES beat destruction!!
Good News: I LOVE LOVE LOVE the art! It is very good to the subject of construction.
Bad News: I think it should have been darker and less pinkish, the whole piece. The wheel (or saw) to the left captures the eye – but a little too much. I think it would be better if the whole piece was just an iota (an extremely small amount 😆 its from Maira Kalman’s books) darker.
Construction is in my family, too, because I’m in the same family as you!

I get it Maya..thanks for the good AND the bad news..Any news is better than no news at all…News beat olds..Anyway I do appreciate a bit of critisizm..You see this piece started very dark and harsh so I’ve started brightening it up attempting to soften the feel of it and yeah..may be it went “an iota” too stark white or even pinkish. Thank you for your sincere comment Maya…

I love the red in this spread. it really balances out all the blacks. i wish the text in the right half was a bit more visible (that would be my only criticism but otherwise great job. You are a great artist, and i love the whole idea of It beats destruction. Thank you for sharing this awesomely dynamic piece with the viewers of your blog. 🙂

I love the black, I love the gray, I love the red, I love the pinkish.
I love it all.
Is critics constructive or destructive? can be both… It is in how we are sending and receiving it. As many other things… There is sometimes a very thin thread between being or trying to be constructive and ending up being destructive (or the other way around).
Aren’t we all continously ‘under construction’ if we stay contructive…
The road we are walking on is always under construction if we keep on learning from the journey.
Funny thoughts that came up to me, looking at your spread.
That’s why i love your work. I makes me think.
