Spread #30 – Visual Information Holders December 5, 2008

Posted by Orly in Spreads.

030-visual-information-holders What a discovery! My mother was once a child. Really. I have never, in my entire life, thought about it until a few days ago when I received this photograph of her. It is from my brother’s photo collection. Up till now I have only seen pictures of her in her early adult years – never one from her childhood. It profoundly moved me. I looked at it, in it, and through it, for a long time and a whole world of ‘understanding things’ opened to me—hard to describe and maybe I don’t want to 😉  Well, this is the outcome of that. The process of creating these pages in my journal was just as emotional as the discovery itself. I hope it portrays that truthfully. I used envelopes and other ‘visual information holders’ as a metaphor for our bodies, holding, revealing, concealing, bits and pieces, or as my daughter (who is now at about the same age as my mother in this picture) used to call it ‘crisps of the heart.’

This post represents, you and your passion. Your drive and you as a whole. You have created virtual art journaling and you should be proud. You show your mom as a little girl, and the writing complements the whole piece. Great job!

The photos are on their way. There are a few that I had not scanned in and emailed you yet, so look through everything. I just delivered the box to the post office this morning so give it some days. There’s a little gift(s) inside too, which you may keep (not send back).

Actually it was quite revealing to me too, to see Gilli’s MySpace pictures.
Beautiful things i’ve never seen before, or quite a long time.
So I can imagine that the proces of making these creations is very emotional for you.
I must tell you something amazing and you may believe it or not.
Before I saw your youtube entry, every time I heard this song on the radio, in the car or at home, I thought about YOU!!!
I don’t know why, but i thought that you’d probably like this song too!

Love You,

Beautiful Orly, I have to tell you I laughed when you said my mother is a child. Like you were in shock. Funny, but in another way, I guess I kinda feel the same about my own mother.

Great post.

Love Renee
