Spread #30 – Visual Information Holders December 5, 2008Posted by Orly in Spreads.
What a discovery! My mother was once a child. Really. I have never, in my entire life, thought about it until a few days ago when I received this photograph of her. It is from my brother’s photo collection. Up till now I have only seen pictures of her in her early adult years – never one from her childhood. It profoundly moved me. I looked at it, in it, and through it, for a long time and a whole world of ‘understanding things’ opened to me—hard to describe and maybe I don’t want to 😉 Well, this is the outcome of that. The process of creating these pages in my journal was just as emotional as the discovery itself. I hope it portrays that truthfully. I used envelopes and other ‘visual information holders’ as a metaphor for our bodies, holding, revealing, concealing, bits and pieces, or as my daughter (who is now at about the same age as my mother in this picture) used to call it ‘crisps of the heart.’
