Spread # 97- That’s Just The Way It Is June 12, 2010

Posted by Orly in Uncategorized.

So a couple of days ago I went to see my friend Christina, ‘the photographer’. She was working on something new and was showing it to me. Now I always admire her ‘ways’. She strongly chooses her subjects, intently, and attentively. Once the choice is made, that’s it, a click, and it’s there, magnificent, suggestive, evocative, and mysterious. Her ‘story telling’ is superb, revealing and concealing information, conveying nonverbal intriguing messages and strong visual statements. This time, beyond the admiration I usually feel when looking at her images, I took something from her, the brilliant concept of unprocessed art. Now ‘mixed-media’ is my middle name, layering, building pages, manipulating, recycling, reworking, and processing images, that’s what I do best, and did a lot of it lately, so it’s not that simple. But here and today, inspired by Christina, I tempted to do just that, unprocessed art, make a choice, and let it be. Direct art, simple, sharp, unforced, how refreshing. Christina, I cannot wait to see your stunning images all blown up.

Dear Orly-I haven’t been over here in a bit (taking a class so things are super hectic.) I love the flowers in the previous post. They are lush and organic yet still retain a graphic quality. I also love the stark, graphic image above. It is rich with symbolism yet retains a simplicity about it. I hope that things have been going well with you and you have a wonderful weekend full of summer goodness:)

This is great! I love the idea of ‘unprocessed art’! Thank you for being inspired and now inspiring me!

Orly! I always think of your work as bold. You put down a line, or paint. Never erease, it’s there. YOU are a bold woman. You speak your mind. Your here to stay. You have a lot to say. Isn’t it amazing? We look at art, it changes us, and influences us. How can we not look at art and have it change us? How can we know you Orly and not have that change or influence us forever? You are an amazing work of art.

Great, Orly. Love the way you put it. I think there’s already so much inside us that we have loads of stories to tell.. sometimes over focusing and over analyzing (I wonder why this word starts with anal .. lol) can make us lose out focus and spontaneity.

this is such an interesting, cool departure from your normal style, but still totally you! i love this about the creative process – how we can channel perspectives or techniques from others, yet they emerge in our own way, filtered through our own style.

These are intriguing! Are they photographs? negatives? line drawings?

No matter they have a loose spontaniaty to them that is lovely.
