THE JOURNALING GAME is out and a deck of cards is ready to be given away.Cards 1

But first let me tell you how it came about….

A few years ago I was teaching in a beautiful art retreat in the mountains, a place where the joy of creating didn’t stop at the end of the class but continued into the night.

Retreat buddies gathered in their cabins to journal together. I started noticing that it wasn’t that easy for anyone to be in a group setting and have ideas how to begin, continue, or end their pages.

Then an idea came to visit me. How about if each of us took a turn in giving the rest of us a prompt. It was not only working out but it was contributing to a light, non-judgmental, fun evening.

Since that day it was known to be The Journaling Game and inspired many gatherings to be joyously creative and lively.

So I’ve designed a deck of cards based on that idea. Each card has a close-up taken from one of my journal pages on one side and on the other, not really a technique but more of a prompt, a starter, a process that can take you in many directions if you run with it…it has an opening to a new expression. It offers many opportunities for you to explore and become inquisitive about, to expand your emotional and creative horizons.Cards 2

The box reads “Sparks of inspiration for individuals who work solo or in a group setting with materials mostly found at home, in nature, and on the street.”

DUE TO HIGH VOLUME OF ORDERS THE CARD DECKS ARE NOW OUT OF STOCK….A NEW SHIPMENT IS UNDERWAY!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT ENTHUSIASM, YOUR RESPONSE HAS BEEN  INCREDIBLE!!!

I appreciate your patience as I try to navigate this new terrain.

There are 48 cards in the box, 3.5” x 3.5” in size. Each deck costs $28 (+shipping and handling) and can be ordered through me at the link below: http://www.oneartistjournal.com/my-store/ (US ONLY)

For those of you located outside of the US shipping will be available soon.

For a chance to win a deck of The Journaling Game please leave a comment right here, tell us if you’ve played this before and please remember to include your email address in case you are the one to win.

A randomly selected winner will be announced in 48 hours, that is Monday at 5:30pm Pacific time.Cards 5

77. Della Monk - December 13, 2015

I’ve never played The Art Journalling Game, but I love it. It’s bold and creative and soft and nurturing. I have an idea, too, that I’ve been cultivating for the past year and a half. I want to start and Art Journalling Workshop for Youth. The audience will be teens and young adults whose only access to art materials will be that which they could make or find. I’m passionate about this idea, and convinced that everywhere created in these workshops will be beautiful and transformative. Please come and show us how!

Oh dear, I really need something like this. Lately, I’m utterly…paralyzed. I am either worrying about my Disabled Veteran son, or just staring off into space with a totally blank, tabula rasa mind. I could definitely use prompts! Anything to get my creative spirit back – usually I can create during dark times, but the last painting I made was Christmas, last year – which he snatched up. And the next thing I knew – both he and the painting were gone. It is what it is. Thanks for this opportunity.

So, so excited!! Love these treasure cards 😀

141. Cheryl - December 13, 2015

Years ago, 2 journaling friends and I would write a word or a phrase on a piece of paper. We each wrote 3 then we put them in a hat and drew them out one at a time. We had to do a spread on each prompt for our next meeting. We had such a good time. It was a forerunner to a much larger group. I would love to see what you’ve come up with for your deck. cherylford2011@gmail.com

142. Linz - December 13, 2015

This is such a beautiful and clever way of inspiring creativity. I would love to bring this gift to my artistic circle.

143. Lisa - December 13, 2015

Never heard of The Journaling Game but would love
To win and have chance to play !

144. scrapbox9 - December 13, 2015

Only, this is such an incredible idea complete with built-in inspiration, to boot! Seeing that we all come to the art table with a different set of life experiences it seems that the same prompt will lead each artist who encounters your cards in very different directions; the artist’s version of “choose your own adventure”. Thank you for creating 48 “jumping-off places” to our own creative realm!

Never played the game, never followed a course with you (sorry, but you are on my still-to-do-list). I’m from the Netherlands and journaling is difficult sometimes. After a day at the office my head is in analytic mode and it is hard to switch back to creative mode…… I guess having a deck if cards with “instructions”/”guide-lines” to get started I would become back in creative mode sooner. So I would love to win a deck……

184. Trine Pettigrew - December 13, 2015

These cards are amazing. No, haven’t actually held them in my hands…. But they look beautiful. And the idea is inspirational.
If I was the lucky one…… I would use your journaling cards in my workshops, when prompts on long lists gets overwhelming;-) your game seems so much more esthetic. Thank you for sharing, love from Denmark x

Congratulations on this new part of your journal art adventuring!!!!
I would so love to have a set and would treasure and use them often. They would probably get paint on them and get dogeared from much use. I have had a sort of similar experience when my friend and I do journaling, giving each other prompts, such a handing a piece of our own ephemera over to each other that we have to use, or picking colours to use with our eyes closed, or picking a word to inspire the day.
Love what you have done!!!..xxx

My, my, I see that The Journaling Game is already very popular! I like the idea because each day I’d sit down to journal would be like opening a present for Christmas. After I went through the box I could sort through the cards into favorites and not favorites and alternately play between the two. The possibiities are endless! Sometimes my least favorite pieces turn out the best.

This is a great concept! Yes, I’ve played something similar. The version I played suggested that all participants collaborate on a single piece. One prompt is given and each person gets to draw, paint, dance or even compose a poem to recite. This was really intuitive + invigorating for everyone!

I have not journaled with card prompts but I have watched several of my art friends do it online. looks like it would be fun for sure and with your art to inspire it should be extra grand
